Upcoming Presidents Day weekend release I Am Number Four was rated PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and action, and for language." This differed from Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which was released with a PG rating on the same weekend in 2010, implying that I Am Number Four will target a slightly older crowd. The sci-fi adventure is set to open Feb. 18 against Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Unknown.
Hanna earned a PG-13 for "intense sequences of violence and action, some sexual material and language." The historical epic is directed by Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement), stars Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana, and will go to battle with Rio and Your Highness on April 8.
A wave of controversy erupted a few months ago when Blue Valentine was rated NC-17 for "a scene of explicit sexual content." The Weinstein Company president Harvey Weinstein, along with the company's lawyers, formally appealed the rating in person last week. The rating was subsequently knocked down to an R for "strong graphic sexual content, language, and a beating." Blue Valentine is set for a limited release on Dec. 31 before expanding in January.
Courageous was rated PG-13 for "some violence and drug content." The drama is currently scheduled to open Sept. 30 opposite Now, Dream House and Anonymous.
The MPAA's report also included a rating for an untitled comedy from Summit Distribution, LLC. Assuming that means Summit Entertainment, this untitled comedy is likely Live With It, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogen. The movie received an R rating for "language throughout, sexual content and some drug use" and is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2011.
