Saturday Update: Although we haven't heard directly from Paramount yet, other sources, mostly other studios, are reporting that Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation made $20M on Friday (which includes Thursday's $4M evening screenings) on the path to a $50M weekend. That would make the Chris McQuarrie directed Rogue the second best opening in the M:I series, only trailing Mission: Impossible II and its $57.8M weekend in 2000. Universal reports that Jurassic World, with $1.52B is the third biggest worldwide hit in history, passing Marvel's The Avengers and its $1.519B in worldwide receipts. Universal confirms that Minions made a lot of bananas this weekend as the animated film crossed $400M in worldwide box office. Though it had opened in select markets on June 18th the film hit 30 new territories this weekend and was #1 in all of them.

Universal's Minions, the third installment in their Despicable Me franchise, opened to #1 with $115.2M in estimated domestic grosses, with a sturdy average of $26,785 in 4,301 theaters. Internationally, the film rolled out in 30 additional territories (it was already in 26) and made $124.3M, rolling up into an international total of $280.5M and a worldwide total of $395.7M. In a squeaker of a Fourth of July finish actuals coming in show that Inside Out made $29.77M to Jurassic World's $29.24M, giving the Disney/Pixar film its first #1, three-day weekend berth, in its third week of release. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Looks like yarn-haired, anthropomorphic emotions and extinct animals will prove tougher than metallic endoskeletons and six-packed strippers over the long Fourth of July holiday.

The numbers are in for Tuesday and Magic Mike XXL leads Terminator Genisys, with the Channing Tatum film taking in $2.4M versus $2.3M for the Schwarzenegger reboot. Mike, with mildly positive reviews, would seem poised to take the weekend versus the poorly received latest Terminator. Paramount, however, is reporting that Genisys is actually on 3,758 screens, a much wider count than the 3,600 earlier reported, which upends the conventional thinking.

The Fourth of July weekend looks to be filled with full multiplexes as Magic Mike XXL and Terminator Genisys open tomorrow (Weds, 7/1), joining Jurassic World, Inside Out and Ted 2 in a battle royale for eyeballs and bottoms. James Cameron

In what is somewhat of a surprise Universal reports that Ted 2 had a $13.2M Friday which puts it on pace for a $34.1M weekend.

Universal has confirmed that not only has Jurassic World retained its #1 position at the weekend box office it now holds the top spot for 2nd weekend grosses with $106.6M, beating former record holder Marvel's The Avengers and its $103.1M in 2012.
