On Wednesday, the day before the launch of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, Spider-Man caught $4,243,044, down 49.0% from last Wednesday and off just 6.3% from Tuesday.

Spider-Man remained by far the top selling soundtrack for the week ending May 12, according to figures from SoundScan.

Spider-Man slipped a bit on Tuesday as the advent of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones drew nearer. The Marvel Comics adaptation nabbed $4,527,566, off 54.6% from last Tuesday and down 13.1% from Monday. Movies usually get a slight Tuesday bump-up from Monday by their second week.

Spider-Man continued to weave its Marvel-ous box office web on Wednesday. Though not a record for the day, the famed webslinger caught $8,315,369 on Wednesday, representing a modest 16.5% drop from Tuesday.

Spider-Man is spinning on quite a few CD players. According to figures from SoundScan, the soundtrack to the record-shattering Marvel Comics adaptation sold 112,200 copies in its first week, bowing at No. 4 on the album sales chart.

The blistering pace of Spider-Man continues. Though not a record for the day, Spider-Man snared $9,961,854 on Tuesday, down a modest 9.7% from Monday.After just five days, the Marvel Comics adaptation's total climbed to $135,840,755. In the process, it shot up 21 spots on the all time chart to No. 123, just ahead of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' $135,265,915.

Prepare to marvel at an amazing opening for Spider-Man, and that's not just spin. Fans of the webslinger have been waiting decades for this movie, and they'll be out in full force this weekend. So much so, that the $72.1 million May weekend record set by The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997 will likely go extinct.

My First Mister is a touching movie about the value of friendship and coming to terms with oneself. Leelee Sobieski plays Jennifer, a.k.a. "J," a death-obsessed Goth kind of teenager with her own warped view of herself and reality. "J" lands a job in a clothing store and makes friends with the manager, Randall, a.k.a. "R" (Albert Brooks), a middle-aged man who is also a loner. Both characters are hiding from the world in their own way, but through their friendship they come to terms with themselves and the world around them.

The good news is that Nia Vardalos's story about a young woman's ethnic family, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, is the summer's surprise hit; it reminds us that mature audiences are starved for a classic romantic comedy, not potty joke flicks masquerading as humor.

The summer movie season gets an early start with the release of Universal Pictures' The Scorpion King, starring wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson. Or is it really that The Scorpion King is opening early, because it couldn't cut it versus Spider-Man and Star Wars and the other big guns of the summer?
