MPAA Ratings: 'Toy Story 3,' 'Grown Ups,' 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' & More
The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly bulletin this morning, which included new ratings for a handful of anticipated summer releases.

Similar to its predecessors, the highly-anticipated Toy Story 3 received a G rating. Only two of Pixar's 11 movies, The Incredibles and Up, have qualified for a PG. Toy Story 3 opens in Disney Digital 3D on June 18, where it will go head-to-head with Western comic book adaptation Jonah Hex.

Julia Roberts drama Eat Pray Love was awarded an R rating for "brief strong language," though the bulletin indicates that producers have opted to protest this rating. It's likely that a new edit, sans language, will be resubmitted and awarded a PG-13. Eat Pray Love debuts opposite The Expendables and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on Aug. 13.

Director Jon Turtletaub and star Nicolas Cage's latest collaboration, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, was rated PG for "fantasy action violence, some mild rude humor and brief language." Turtletaub and Cage previously worked on the National Treasure movies, which were also rated PG and together made over $800 million worldwide. The Sorcerer's Apprentice faces Christopher Nolan's Inception on July 16.

Ensemble comedy Grown Ups received a PG-13 rating for "crude material including suggestive references, language and some male rear nudity." This rating is in line with most previous Happy Madison productions, and the male rear nudity indicates Grown Ups will at least to some extent feature the sophomoric humor fans expect from an Adam Sandler movie. Grown Ups opens June 25 against Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in Knight & Day.

Two July 30 releases received MPAA ratings this week. Zac Efron drama Charlie St. Cloud earned a PG-13 rating for "language including some sexual references, an intense accident scene and some sensuality." Similar to the first movie, Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore was awarded a PG for "animal action and humor."

It's Kind of a Funny Story, starring Emma Roberts and Zach Galifianakis and opening in limited release on Sept. 24, received a PG-13 rating for "mature thematic issues, sexual content, drug material and language."

Two relatively high-profile documentaries also scored ratings this week. Waiting for Superman, from An Inconvenient Truth director Davis Guggenheim, garnered a PG rating for "some thematic material, mild language and incidental smoking." The movie, which shines a harsh light on the state of education in America, won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Paramount later bought the movie, and is planning to release it this fall. 8: The Mormon Proposition is rated R for "some language/sexual references." Opening in limited release June 18, the documentary examines the Mormon influence on the 2008 vote to reject gay marriage in California.
