Her Uncle's Will (1910)
Ruth, a young society girl, is left a large legacy by her uncle with the understanding that she exclude herself one month each year during the height of the fashionable season, passing this period of exclusion on a dairy farm in the country, occupying her time in the ordinary pursuits of a dairy maid. While she is thus engaged, George Temple, a young son of a wealthy old fellow, is spending a vacation in the same country place. Ruth and he meet and fall in love. The young beau takes her home, carrying her pails for her and frequently he is seen calling on her at the farm house entirely unaware of her real station in life. He declares his love and proposes. Ruth consents to become his wife. An old busybody of the village happens to see the young chap in company with Ruth and loses no time in imparting the news to his father, who is disgusted and utterly opposed to his son marrying a dairy maid as quite unbecoming and disgraceful. The father at once proceeds to the house of the young lady and tells her housekeeper, whom he thinks is Ruth's mother, that he strenuously objects to his son marrying her daughter. The joke is on the old gent. He learns later from the young girl's lawyer of the vest estates and interests of which she is the owner in her own right and that she is merely living on her own farm for health and pleasure. With chagrin and many apologies, he asks Ruth's pardon and, as gracefully as possible, under the circumstances, he acknowledges his mistake. George and Ruth are left to themselves and their own happiness.
