Cupid's Comedy (1910)

There are two sets of sweethearts, Jose and Juanita, and Manuel and Maria. Each man is much enamored by his fair one. Juanita coquettes with Jose and teasingly offers a kiss and when it is about to be taken, runs off. Maria, wandering under the palms with Manuel, treats him in like manner. The girls meet and after a hastily formed scheme, leave their lovers. When at a safe distance they exchange their mantillas and each goes in a different direction. Jose's and Manuel's patient, becoming exhausted, they determine to find their companions and start in opposite directions. Manuel comes upon Juanita, while in another place Jose sees Maria. The girls listen to the ardent pleadings but reveal their identity before the proffered caress is given. When the fraud is discovered, Manuel and Jose run off to find the right love. Their great distress is relieved when they learn that the kiss had not been given and they in turn plan to have like sport with the girls, so change coats and hats. Juanita and Maria seek their respective sweethearts, and thinking they are at last right, do not wait to be asked, but each kiss. Then the mistake is discovered, all four get together, and there is a lively time until the mix-up is generally cleared and they find that Juanita still loves Jose and kissed Manuel in error, and Maria is true to Manuel, having caressed Jose because she thought him to be Manuel.
