The Rival Cooks (1910)
Dr. Suburb writes an employment agency for a good cook. His telegram in replay states: "Cook will arrive on 2:30 train." The receiving operator by mistake left the word "the" out. The town marshal reported to the Peary Society the arrival of the noted man of the north. Hasty preparations were made to welcome him to Lonesomehurst. The delegation meets the train; disappointment. Explanations demanded, and confusion galore emanates from the disgruntled committee.
