A Miner's Sweetheart (1910)

What changes a woman brings into the lives of men, whether they be Beau Brummels or just hard-working miners! Joe and Jack are partners in a gold mine. One day Jack brings a letter to his chum, who reads that his sister will spend her vacation with him and will arrive west as soon as her letter. Little did Jack think his life's tune would take a different key. Well, she arrives. She soon sets their rough home in order, and they, or at least Jack, thinks life is worth living. Then comes a sprained ankle for Jack and the tender womanly care of Bessie. One step more and Jack confesses his love and she hers. To this Joe objects, because of Jack's tendency to gamble, so he leaves the camp and wanders aimlessly away. Meantime, a ranchman, before he could defend himself, is robbed by a desperado, who rides off on the stolen horse. Cowboys, happening along, revive the ranchman, mount him on a horse and all ride away. The desperado, seeing his pursuers in the distance, jumps from the horse and makes his way on foot, and Providence wills it that his course be that which Jack took, who, when the former comes upon him, forces him to go back the way he came. Meanwhile the ranchman and cowboys alighted from their horses at Joe's camp, where they chanced to see the stolen mount. They insist, even though their search revealed nothing, that Joe is guilty and he is about to be led away, when Jack comes in with the guilty man. Apologies are offered and accepted, and what else could Joe do to prove his gratitude, but give Bessie to Jack, exacting a promise, however, that gambling be a forgotten thing.
