The Quickest Way (1913)

When Dan arrived at the ranch with his bride, he received the following letter: "Dear Nephew, I hear you are about to get married. If you do so without my consent, I'll cut you off without a dollar. I am coming at once to investigate. Your uncle, John." Hurrying over to an adjoining ranch, he succeeds in getting his friend, Matt, whose wife was away on a visit, to come over and pose as his wife's husband, while Dan put on overalls and told his uncle upon his arrival that he was the hired man. Uncle John was delighted to see him working so well, and Matt, enjoying the joke, pretended to be making love to his bride whenever the unfortunate groom appeared. His amusement, however, was cut short upon his wife's, Millie, making an appearance and accusing Matt of his attentions to another woman, whose hair she attempted to pull. This brought the bride to tears, and both husbands had their hands full trying to pacify their angry wives. No sooner was this accomplished than Uncle John, upon learning the truth, flew into a rage, and it took the combined efforts of everyone to at last pacify the old gentleman and make him see the humor of the thing.
