Buster Brown and the German Band (1914)

Buster had a party. Knowing him as we do that would have, seemingly, offered enough variety for one day. It turned out differently, however, when Buster heard "Dot leetle German band" playing down the street. A quiet consultation with Mary Jane and Tige developed a plan that was calculated to disturb such remnants of peace as might still hover around the Brown household. As Mrs. Brown was likewise entertaining a few friends, Buster decided that a serenade was just the proper thing to finish off the day. A bargain was quickly struck with the leader of the band and the children led them to the house, and so placed them that the full blast of harmony (?) would go right through the window near which Mrs. Brown and her guests were seated. The clarinet squeaked and the horns blared in a perfect orgy of discord. The goat was sleeping peacefully, dreaming dreams of unlimited pasture and mischief. His awakening was a rude one, and he proceeded to prepare for an onslaught, but his rope held him fast. The ladies tried their best to stop the racket, but Buster urged on the band with cries of "Louder, louder," and the musicians redoubled their efforts. Finally, the goat succeeded in working the rope loose and just as Mrs. Brown appeared on the scene, he came charging around the corner and scattered everything right and left.
