The Smuggler (1913)
A father, wishing to give his daughter the advantage of a good education, sends her to a private school and then disappears. The girl's tuition reaches the school regularly, but the money is earned by smuggling, the girl's father being the leader of a band of customs dodgers. After a few years the longing to see his daughter influences the father to desert the crooked path in order that he may live with his daughter. But the old companions are not to be so easily set aside and the father's determination to forget them precipitates a tragedy which is narrowly averted.
