The Rose of Sharon (1913)
Randolph Hastings and Althea Warren, friends since childhood, loved each other, but when the Civil War broke out. Randolph's sympathies being for the North, Althea's father, Mr. Warren, would not hear of their love, as he was for the South. At the last moment Randolph writes Althea a letter telling her that if she loves him to wear a Rose of Sharon the next day. The letter is misplaced and there are two broken hearts. Twenty years afterwards, at a reunion, they meet again. The letter is found and brings joy to them both.
