The Impostor (1912)
Lord Crowley, an English nobleman, is advised that a wealthy uncle has died, leaving him a fortune, provided he will marry Rose Conway. His lordship decides to comply with the terms of the will and, accordingly, starts for America. On the ship he meets George West, an adventurer, who represents himself to be a man of affairs. West gains the confidence of Lord Crowley. The young nobleman tells him of the object of his trip. Arrived in New York, they both go to the same hotel and engage adjoining rooms. During the night West attempts to rob Lord Crowley. The Lord awakes and holds West up with a revolver. While 'phoning for help, Lord Crowley for a moment allows his attention to wander from West. West sees the opportunity and throws a vase across the room, striking Lord Crowley on the head. The blow causes Lord Crowley's mind to become a blank. When the police come, West represents himself to be Lord Crowley and points to the real Lord as a thief. Lord Crowley is thrown into prison. West goes to the Conways and is welcomed as "Your Lordship." Preparations go forward for a grand wedding. But the real Lord Crowley regains his reason, convinces his jailers of his identity and in the midst of a grand reception in honor of the supposed Lord the impostor is confronted by his victim, taken to prison, and the young nobleman comes into his own again. All Releases
