Master Cupid, Detective (1911)
In the office of George Reese & Co., brokers, there are employed two clerks. For some time Reese has missed money, but refuses to believe that either one of his apparently trustworthy young men should prove to be a thief. Taking pains that neither Morgan nor Davis shall know of his investigations, he sets a trap, resolved to bring the matter to an immediate conclusion. Calling up the National Detective Bureau, he asks for a detective. In the meantime Gladys Reese, the daughter of the employer, calls on her father. As she is waiting for an opportunity to see her father she finds a note addressed to Morgan from another brokerage firm demanding money to cover margins on certain investments the young man made. When she learns later that her father has lost certain sums of money she resolves to play the detective and catch the thief. Learning that the National Detective Bureau has charge of the case, she visits the manager of the concern and obtains permission to work on the case. The next morning she goes to work at her father's office, dressed as a boy. Neither of the clerks suspects her identity and when Morgan, seeking to place the blame of former robberies on Davis, and rifling the cash box puts a roll of bills and the key to the box in Davis's pockets, she watches him and at an opportune time slips the key and money into Morgan's overcoat pocket. Reese discovers the new theft and sends for a policeman. Davis is fist searched and Morgan's chagrin and surprise is easily noted. Morgan is then searched and the money found on him. As he is dragged away by the policeman, Gladys pulls off her wig and makes known her identity. All Releases
