Putting Pep in Slowtown (1916)

A snail could put it all over Slowtown when it comes to progressiveness. Dolly Van Poke, the Mayor's daughter, is the prettiest girl in town, but her dad, Mayor for the past 15 years, is so slow he can't get out of his own way. The sexton gets talking with some of the "boys" and agrees that the townspeople have not sufficient energy to even "up and die." Accordingly, they put an ad in the paper for a Mayor that will put the Pep in Slowtown. Peter Pep, whose middle name is Speed with a capital S, applies for the job, and gets it, thanks to his galvanizing presence. After his entry into Slowtown's business and social life, the place is misnamed. He puts pep into everything and everyone, even into Dolly's little flivver. He falls in love with her and starts a whirlwind courtship while boosting himself as a candidate for Mayor in the next election. But he runs into a little opposition in the person of Dolly, who spiritedly takes the stand for her father. However, Peter wins out and is elected, then jumps into his big-powered car and starts in pursuit of Dolly's flivver. On the way he picks up the minister, and after some demurring on the young lady's part, Peter Pep marries Dolly, she steps into his car, and they are off on their honeymoon in a cloud of dust.
