The Substitute Model (1912)
Millicent Carr was the steady, prim and serious little stenographer of the manager of a great dry-goods store. At home, her little sister suffered terribly from headaches, which were diagnosed as proceeding from the eyes, and a great specialist pronounced an operation as immediately necessary. But where to get the money? Their slender store held no such sum, and they were despairing when a chance was offered in a most unexpected way. The store model, who was being dressed for the annual competition at the Fashion Show, fainted, and Millie, who was of her figure, begged for a chance to act as substitute. More out of sympathy than anything else, the manager permitted her to try on the dress and then her real beauty and attractiveness, concealed before under her stiff and prim attire was revealed. She won the first prize easily, the operation was performed and, her sister's eyesight saved. All Releases
