A Safe Proposition (1912)

This story cleverly exposes the ever laughable theory, that mistakes will happen, not alone in the best related families, but in properly conducted offices as well, where the incessant hum of business stops long enough to fasten the theft of a large sum of money on an entirely innocent man, through the carelessness of an ignorant janitor, who confuses the meaning of a tenant's note for the removal of a much battered, uncomfortable old sofa, which has been ordered to the scrap heap. However, in the end everything rights itself, much to the benefit of the falsely accused clerk, whose pride and wounded feelings are ameliorated by a substantial raise in position and wages.
