A Touch of Love (1915)
Martha has constituted herself the camp mother, comforting and helping all the men and women in the camp impartially. She has a deeper feeling for Jim. Jim returns from a lucky strike the same day on which Fannie reaches camp. He sees Fannie at the dance hall and falls for her unconditionally and she is drawn to Jim. Martha hears of Fannie's conquest and seeks to save Jim from an entanglement with her, believing that she is unworthy of him. Jim tells her that Fannie would be better if someone really loved her. Jim and Fannie go for a ride together. Fannie's horse runs away and she is thrown and injured. Jim takes her to Martha, who at first is tempted to let her die and so save Jim, but her loving kindness conquers and she nurses Fannie back to health. When Fannie regains consciousness, she cries out in fear that her mother and child, whom she has been supporting will have no one to care for them. Martha hears the story of Fannie's unselfish effort to take care of her loved ones and learns the girl's true loving nature, which changes Martha's attitude. She asks Jim if he is sure Fannie can make him happy. He assures Martha of his confidence in Fannie. Martha renounces her love for Jim and helps him and Fannie get away where they can be happy.
