The Great Deceit (1915)

After two years of married life, John Allen's home is still unblessed by God's greatest gift, a child. This fact grieves him terribly. Some time before his wife, Grace, had been informed by the physician that it would be impossible for her to bear children. She has not the heart to tell her husband this. He is later called to South America to be gone for a long period. About this time Grace's sister, Louise, receives a letter from her supposed husband telling her of their illegal marriage. Grace, desiring company during her husband's absence, asks Louise to come and stay with her. Shortly after a baby is born to Louise. To save her sister's honor and her own happiness, Grace, when her husband's returns, leads him to believe the child is theirs. He is overjoyed. A few years later Grace dies, and eventually Louise becomes the wife of John Allen. The secret is held until the boy proves a great disappointment, then the truth becomes known.
