The Urchin (1915)

An urchin lives with his poor grandfather, a violinist. With the two facing starvation, the boy secretly sells the violin for some bread. When he returns, he discovers that his grandfather is dead. He sells back the bread and buys back the violin. He makes a few cents playing the violin, but when he falls asleep on a park bench, a tramp steals the instrument. The tramp sells the violin to a little girl, who is just coming out of a music conservatory with her mother. Later, the urchin is struck by a car carrying the little girl and is taken to her house. His chances of recovery are slight, until he is awakened by the sound of the girl playing his violin.
