The Crucifixion of Al Brady (1915)

Farmer Mr. Lee quarrels with a neighbor, Sam Jones, and when he finds good but good-for-nothing Al Brady talking to his daughter Stella, he orders him away. Smarting under the lash of Lee's words, Al takes his gun and goes into the woods. Running to pick up some game, he finds Lee lying on the ground in the spot where his prey should have been. Believing that he has killed him, he rushes away in great anguish of mind, so does not see Sam Jones step out of the bushes, a smoking revolver in his hands. Al confides his suffering to Stella and confesses that he has shot her father by accident. Sam Jones, meanwhile, is arrested by the sheriff, who has found Lee's body. Al supposes that Jones is innocent and paying the penalty for his crime. He goes to the sheriff to give himself up. The officer, however, tells him that the wound could not possibly have been made by his gun, and besides, Jones has confessed. Sobered by the experience, Al determining to make something of himself in the world.
