The Bridesmaid's Secret (1916)

Muriel Carroll writes to her school chum, Hazel Field, asking her to come to the city to be bridesmaid at her wedding. Hazel decides to go. On the day of her departure for the city it so happens that John Dempster, Muriel's fiancé, that evening is to give a stag party to bid farewell to his bachelor days. Hazel's train is three hours late and Muriel misses her at the station. Unaccustomed to the ways of the city. Hazel strolls into the street, where she summons a cabman to take her to Muriel's home. Instead she is taken to a vice resort and held captive in a room. Late in the evening the boys at Dempster's decide to paint the town. John Dempster, while intoxicated, goes to the resort where Helen is held prisoner, and is ushered into the room with her. Never having seen her before, he attempts to attack her. He falls and strikes his head. When he gains consciousness Hazel shows him Muriel's letter and begs him to help her. He agrees to on the condition that the happenings of the night never be spoken of. She agrees. The next time she sees him is at his wedding. She then understands the meaning of the condition, but her lips are sealed.
