Tricked Into Happiness (1912)
Dick Walton, a superintendent of the Robson Shoe Factory, is in love with Mildred Mason, the stenographer. Mildred had promised to marry Dick. Her older sister Jane is also secretly in love with Dick. Will Emmet, a traveling salesman for the Robson concern, is also in love with Mildred. While Dick is examining a machine, he is struck in the head and blinded. He is taken to the Mason home, where he boards. Will Emmet calls to see how Dick is, and persuades Mildred to elope with him. Dick calls for Mildred and Jane finds Mildred's letter in which she wrote that she could never marry a blind man. She impersonates Mildred and answers his call. Dick asks her if she loves him enough to marry a blind man. Jane consents and they are married. A year has passed very happily and a little babe has arrived to cheer Dick and Jane. Robson has given Dick a pension and has also tried to have his sight restored. Meanwhile, Mildred pays the price for treachery, learning too late that she has married a gambler. As she returns home, a noted eye specialist has arrived, and through Old Man Robson's efforts, an operation is decided upon. This is successful and as the bandage is about to be removed, Jane hides behind the portieres. Mildred, who has just arrived, stands in amazement, and as Dick looks around he sees Mildred and clasps her in his arms. Mrs. Mason brings Jane from her hiding place and tells Dick of all Jane's noble sacrifices and of Mildred's treachery. Dick listens in amazement; awakened to Jane's unselfishness, he clasps her to his heart, while Mildred stands with bowed head. All Releases
