The Man in the Taxi (1911)
When John Mason and Betty Brown announce to their respective parents that they are to be married, the parents say "Never!" so John and Betty decide to elope. As John sits half-asleep in a taxicab outside the hotel where he is to meet his friend Bob (who is standing in the lobby), a thief snatches a jewel bag from a lady standing there. The burglar runs to John's cab and orders the chauffeur to drive off rapidly. In the taxicab, the burglar empties the contents of the bag into John's pocket, and jumps out as the machine was running at a good clip. He is injured and taken to a hospital. Meanwhile John is taken captive and placed in jail. Betty, disappointed when John doesn't turn up, goes home--and finds that she locked herself out, so she sleeps outside all night. In the morning she finds out that John Mason is in a hospital and another John Mason was arrested. She calls up Bob and they go to the hospital--and find that he is not the John Mason they want. Then they go to the police station, everything is straightened out, and John and Betty get married. All Releases
