In early-20th-century Bulgaria, Konstantin is an ambitious and sensitive young man from a rich family. Under pressure from his father, he begins a political career. Konstantin learns that his family's wealth has accumulated after the crime. Konstantin suffers from the idea that evil is triumphant.
