The Hand Bag (1912)

For a society lady, visiting cards are quite essential. Accordingly, Miss De Rosville, unencumbered, repairs to the stationer's to secure the cards which she bad previously ordered. She puts them into her hand bag and on her way home, loses it. A young girl finds the bag and goes on her way rejoicing. She boards a streetcar and notices a young man looking at her very intently. His glances are embarrassing, and when she leaves the car, she forgets to take the hand bag from the seat beside her. The young man examines the contents of the bag and finds in it Amanda De Rosville's cards. Hurriedly going to his home, he dresses himself in his classiest raiment, hails a taxi and calls at the address given on the cards. He is ushered into the reception room of a very elegant home and asks for Miss De Rosville. When the maid tells Amanda that a young man is awaiting her, she hastens to the parlor, all aflutter. The young man is so shocked at not meeting the fair one of the streetcar, and is so upset by the coquettish grimaces of the old spinster, he can scarcely listen to her explanations of how she lost her hand bag. He loses no time in getting out of the house.
