Diana's Legacy (1912)

By the death of a distant relative, a circus attaché, Miss Diana Stubbins, an old maid, is left a baby elephant. The bequest is delivered at Diana's home and on the day of its arrival it is stolen by burglars, in lieu of anything else of value. Diana reports to the police that she has lost a baby, terrible news, and they make a thorough search for the missing child, which she later informs them is an elephant. The guardians of the law lose interest and the elephant is forgotten. In the meantime, the thieves, finding that they have an elephant on their hands, which may be their undoing, bring it back to Diana's home, and she finds it there upon her return from the police station. Her delight is unbounded and the elephant has everything his own way. He is the light and life of her cherished and visionary hopes.
