Bedelia's 'at Home' (1912)

Bedelia's husband rises in the political world, and she aspires to society leadership. Mike, however, has no leaning for society, so he fakes up a telegram calling him away on the day Bedelia is having an "at home," and joins a poker game at Grogan's saloon. Word reaches Bedelia that the train her husband was to have taken has been wrecked and all passengers killed. The "at home" is turned into a mourning party. Bedelia's guests sitting up with her. Mike comes home in the small hours of the morning and is taken for a ghost at first, but finally convinces all that he is alive. He tells a thrilling story of his narrow escape from death, but when information is received that the train was not wrecked he has to confess his duplicity and is adequately punished by his irate spouse.
