Bedelia As a Mother-in-Law (1912)

Bedelia writes a letter to her daughter telling her that she is coming to visit. Upon her arrival she is greeted effusively by her daughter, but gets a very sad welcome from her son-in-law. She proceeds to make life unbearable for him and he takes it out on his wife. He schemes to send mother back home by paying all his attention to her and entirely overlooking his wife. He showers her with flowers, candy, and new hats, something he had not done for his wife in ages; naturally his wife resents it. The culmination of the whole affair comes after Bedelia and her mother have spent the evening at a fashionable restaurant. Bedelia comes home much the worse for wear. The next morning the angry wife brings her mother her hat, coat and baggage and sends her on her way home.
