The Price of a Silver Fox (1912)

Harry Mathews and Ed Salter are going on a hunting expedition in Northern Canada, and receive a jolly send-off by the boys and girls of their set. Frank Wardour and his sweetheart, Grace Thornton, are among the bunch and there is considerable kissing all around. Grace gets jealous and in a little lovers spat, tells Frank she wants no more of him, and he in return, tells her "All right," he will go with the other boys on the hunting trip. As he is boarding the boat he receives n note from Grace which tells him if he will bring back to her the skin of a silver fox she will renew the engagement and promise to be his wife. The hunting is taken up in earnest and one day the party separated. Ed and Barry going one way and Frank another. Fortune favors the latter and he traps a fine silver fox. He carries it to the hut and dresses the skin which is to win his sweetheart back. A few days later an Indian prowling around sneaks into the hut and steals the skin. Frank seeing the foot-prints of the Indian in the snow and starts off to track the thief. He becomes exhausted with fatigue and the intense cold and shouting for help, sinks unconscious in the snow, a party of Canadians rescue him and carry him to their camp where with the aid of an Indian girl they revive him. But he has been frozen and when convalescent he is fearfully disfigured. One day at meal time the Indian girl spills hot soup on a man. He attempts to strike her. Frank interposes and driven the ruffian out. He then notices that the Indian girl has some silver fox trimming on her dress. He asks her where she obtained it, explaining that it was stolen from the cabin. The girl tells Frank that she knows the thief and they both set out to find him. The redskin puts up a fight, but Frank has the best of it and secures the coveted fox skin. Five months passed and Ed and Harry have returned home and reported that Frank has been lost and is probably dead. Grace is to be married to another man when Frank appears upon the scene. He hands her the skin of the silver fox and her note, and tells her he will not interfere with her happiness, and goes back to the Canadian camp.
