A Bunch of Violets (1912)
Married to a drunkard and general good-for-nothing, popular actress Violet Ray sticks to him for their dead child's sake. Mabel Wright, a florist's 10-year-old daughter, greatly admires Violet and comes to the stage door every afternoon with a bunch of violets. Violet grows fond of Mabel and one afternoon takes her home with her to her apartment, and in answer to the her questions, tells her about the little daughter she lost. Mabel reciprocates Violet's love with all her childish sympathy. Alec Lang, a man-about-town who is very much in love with Violet, tries to persuade her to leave her brutal husband and marry him, but she refuses. One day, Mabel is run over and seriously injured on her way to the stage door and taken to the hospital., where she makes her father go tell Violet what happened and take her some violets. Meanwhile, Jim has grown particularly brutal; Violet, resenting his conduct, decides to accept Alec's protection and telephones him to come to her. While she is waiting, Mabel's father arrives with the message and violets. These touch Violet's heart and awaken her wifely love. She dismisses Alec and goes to Mabel's bedside to console the little sufferer; she is happy in her resolution to remain true to herself and her daughter's memory.
