Her Boy (1912)
Far up in the mountains Mrs. Bailor's two sons, Tom and Harry, are engaged at their distilling, constantly in fear of being pursued by the revenue officers, and arrested as moonshiners. Harry is taken ill and during his sickness, the revenue officers learn of the location of the still and are in pursuit of the two brothers. While Harry is soundly sleeping in a cabin, convalescing from his illness, his guns are stolen from his room by another moonshiner, with whom the mountains abound. The man with the stolen gun meets one of the officers and shoots him, leaving Harry's gun by his side. Harry is suspected of the crime and arrested. His devoted mother pleads for her son and tries to show the sheriff and his aides that it was impossible for her boy to have committed this crime, as he was in bed at the time and had not been from the house until the present time. Sue, his sweetheart, is heart-broken, and intercedes for him. But it is to no purpose. The sheriff place the handcuffs on him and are about to take him to jail when his mother asks them to wait a few moments, until she brings him a few things which he may need. She enters the house and while there, a shot is heard and her son drops dead. The mother rushes to his side, exclaiming, "You have accused him, but you cannot hang him." In calm resignation both she and Sue stand immovable contemplation of their dead one, satisfied with the judgment and mercy of Providence in delivering him from the hands of the law.
