The Winning Whiskers (1914)

Lizzie dotes on lurid literature. She would sooner read a good dime novel than eat. While her mistress believes Lizzie at work, the cook is deeply engrossed in reading the following story: Stella, the beyootiful heiress, loves Billy. U. Knave, her guardian, like all dime novel guardians, objects to the match. Ima Crook, who has a hold upon Knave, demands the hand of Stella as the price of his silence. Although Stella cries a river of tears, flooding her room and compelling her pet bear to swim for life Knave commands her to wed Crook. Crook calls upon Stella's guardian Billy peering into the room through the window, hears them send Bloodfoot, Crook's assistant, for a minister. Billy's chance comes later, when Crook is alone in the room. Knocking the villain senseless, Billy disguises himself by shaving off Crook's eyebrows and whiskers and pasting them on his own face. Stella knows of her lover's ruse The minister enters and the two are wed. Shortly atter Billy and Stella leave the house. Crook revives. Believing Knave has played a trick upon him the villain engages the man in a duel. Both Plug each other squarely through the heart, when - Lizzie s mistress enters the room. A box on the ear sends the cook back to her pots and pans, while her cherished book feeds the furnace.
