When He Proposed (1915)
Eddie calls upon his girl. The family, as usual give sister's beau the "once over" and cause him no end of trouble before his visit is over. Taking father to one side, Eddie tells him that he bought a nice little home the day before and has $300 left with which to furnish it. The girl's father is very much pleased. Eddie then proceeds to ask the old man for the hand of his daughter. The latter's consent is readily given. Trouble starts, however, when brother sees an advertisement offering to sell a five-passenger touring car, last year's model, tires all good for only $300 down and $50 per month. The family at once decide they need a machine. Eddie protests that he needs the $300 to buy the furniture, but brother and sister see the car. Brother says it is a "bear," and seeing no other way out, poor Eddie is forced to buy it. Eddie is married and Wifie's family virtually take possession of the car. They decide to build a garage and charge it up to their new son-in-law. After many trying experiences, Eddie at last decides to sell the machine and to buy furniture. The family come around to visit intending to take a ride in "their" car. Eddie tells them he has sold it and has bought furniture. They are very indignant that "their" car has been disposed of and finally leave in a huff. Wifie is sad to see her parents thus chagrined but decides that she loves Eddie better than her folks after all.
