Dishwash Dick's Counterfeit (1913)

A nutty individual, known as Dishwash Dick, obtains a job by mail-order in the grub department of the "N.Y. Ranch." On the same train that he takes for the wilds, is Dick Mason, whose father owns the ranch, but who is unknown and has never been west. The cowboys who are hilarious and likewise impetuous over the arrival of the new knight of the kitchen, go to the train and lay violent hands on young Mason, as a candidate for the third degree, while the ranchman's daughter meets Dishwash Dick, and mistaking him for their guest, drives him home in her runabout, and he is installed in state as the honored visitor. In the interim, Dick Mason is whirled about so fast that he has no time to explain his real status and has one awful time, between the perils of the kitchen and the trials and tribulations that the mischievous cowboys put upon him. The ranch people are stirred to their uttermost depths by the presence of cattle rustlers, and everybody rushes to the saddle to scour the range and bring the bad men to grass. This brings out the true colors of Dishwash Dick as a coward and poltroon and he is glad to let his horse run away toward the railway, while Dick Mason develops unexpected trepidation which wins him the esteem and regard of the cowboys; in fact, he settles several of the most truculent with neatness and dispatch that commands the highest regard of all.
