The Fiume enterprise (1919-1920) coagulated a quantity of different experiences, of anxieties of rebellion, of revolutionary ambitions; it was like a long and feverish carnival in the name of celebration and provocation, which is related to the avant-gardes of the time, but it was also an "insurrectional" moment like 1968. The book revisits the Fiume adventure by recounting a life-celebration made of futurist bravado and utopias, of sexual transgression and piracy, of gambling and war. In this light, Fiume is a significant chapter in that culture of revolt that characterized the twentieth century.
