The Magical Craftsmanship of Suzhou

Suzhou, a city west of Shanghai, is a charming city where the ancient and the modern coexist. With over 2500 years of history, it is known for its lanterns, fruit pit carving, Song brocade, Ming-style furniture, canals, Chinese embroidery, Xiangshanbang traditional architectural skills, Kesi (a technique in Chinese silk tapestry), and jade carving. The film follows twelve craftsmen who inherited the above nine various aspects of cultural heritage. Through their eyes and lives, the audience will get a glimpse of how old traditions fade out, reappear, and reinvent themselves in modern China. They will also see the heartwarming stories among these traditional artistic crafts, their inheritors, and the evolution of their families.
