
Royal Opera House: Carmen 2024
The opera Carmen is at the very top of the most popular and most frequently performed operas in music history. Georges Bizet's opera, based on a short story by Prospér Merimée, premiered in 1875, so this year it turns 150. Here it is Aigul Akhmetshina, the greatest interpreter of Carmen of our time, who plays the main role. The production, which comes from the Royal Opera House in London, is directed by Damiano Michieletto. The conductor leads a singing group that, in addition to Akhmetshina, includes Piotr Beczala, Olga Kulchynska and Kostas Smoriginas.
