Landing somewhere 'tween cloying and hackneyed, A Cinderella Story plays more like an ode to AOL than a hip update to a fairy tale. Hilary Duff (The Lizzy Maguire Movie) and her posse of improbable stereotypes manage to trivialize teenage struggle for identity to a text-message and true love to an emoticon.

For all of its impressive production design and cool gadgets, I, Robot is a clunker with perhaps the worst performance in star Will Smith's career, and a story that is so needlessly complicated and brain dead that by the time it's all over you could care less.

Boasting a stellar cast, a crisp, literate script and solid direction, The Door in the Floor is one of those rarities of the summer—a serious picture for the over 35 crowd. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most depressing movies of the year filled with beautiful people who spend two hours being noble and stoic and, yes, beautiful, in the face of a lingering tragedy.
