A Kiss Before Dying

Like a faint melody playing in the distance, Thomas Vinterberg's bizarre It's All About Love lacks clarity—but one strains to hear it. Enduring this dystopian movie, starring Claire Danes and Joaquin Phoenix, is a chore. With a plot as coherent as a foreign taxi driver, and the dialogue to match, the low-budget Strand Releasing picture borders on gibberish.

The Idle Maker

Whenever it's on the verge of grand scale entertainment, Taylor Hackford's ambitious Ray cuts from the most compelling moments in the life of recording artist Ray Charles. It is a hard life, and there is no denying that, in his portrayal of the late Mr. Charles, actor Jamie Foxx has come a long way since Booty Call. His performance as the blind country, jazz and gospel singer is concentrated and it is good. But Foxx, through no fault of his own, does not carry the movie.

'Grudge' Grabs No. 1

Sarah Michelle Gellar's haunted movie took to the top of the charts like Scooby to a Scooby snack, while Ben Affleck's Christmas flick merely haunted the actor with memories of Gigli. Sam Raimi
