Commotion Causes Lost Connection
Blatantly derived from The Incredibles, Sky High is hard to take on its own terms. Like Pixar's smash hit, the story centers on supernatural heroes with an emphasis on one family whose legendary mother and father have a past that plays into an evil conspiracy. This time, the action is live, not computer generated, which makes the picture less stylized, more sterilized and more noticeably frantic. Loaded with noise, gadgets and blasts of action and powered by too many characters and writers, the occasionally uplifting Sky High never takes off.
Around the World Roundup: 'Madagascar' Fends Off 'Fantastic Four'
The international box office continued to be divided. No single blockbuster has ruled the world since War of the Worlds' near global debut nearly a month ago. Most domestic summer releases are still rolling out with new titles joining the fray each weekend. This weekend, Madagascar's ongoing strength was enough to keep the openings of Fantastic Four at bay. But other titles were very impressive in individual markets. The Mary Tyler Moore Show - Season Two
Saturday nights on CBS during the 1970's were built around The Mary Tyler Moore Show, a bright, cheerful situation comedy, which aired from 1970 through 1977, starring Mary Tyler Moore (Ordinary People) as single, attractive Mary Richards. The popular program focused on her work, friendships and romantic life. Fox Home Entertainment's $30 Complete Second Season, despite the glaring absence of the incomparable Miss Moore, who ought to have been included, recreates that Saturday night excitement with fun extras and every episode on three snap encased discs. Any Hollywood hotshot wondering why television series are driving DVD sales need search no further. This stuff's better than some movie studios' entire release schedules.

Spielberg's Remake is a Grisly Exploit
Steven Spielberg's cinematic version of H.G. Wells' 1898 novel War of the Worlds—like other movies in his illustrious career—is big, thunderous and horrifying. He visualizes the book's theme that man is puny by eviscerating Western civilization. Having admitted his aim to recall the Islamic terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, which he crudely exploits, Mr. Spielberg creates a nauseating movie, one that probably ought to be avoided by those who experienced the assault at close range.
UPDATED: Fastest to $100-400 Million Rankings
Ties on the Fastest to $100-400 Million charts are no longer broken by release date in favor of older movies. Instead, they are now determined by the total gross of each movie on the day they hit the milestone, in favor of the movie with the higher total gross on that day. This better reflects the spirit of the chart, assuming that a movie with a higher total gross hit its milestone earlier in the day than a movie with a lower gross.
