Tod "Kip" Williams has signed on to direct Paranormal Activity 2, due in theaters on Oct. 22. Oren Peli, writer-director of the 2009 supernatural horror hit Paranormal Activity, made the announcement this morning via the movie's official Web site.

Along with the aspirations of the Mar. 26-28 weekend's nationwide debuts, How to Train Your Dragon and Hot Tub Time Machine, comes a sizable increase in ticket prices in many theaters, particularly for 3D presentations, which are jumping by as much as $2 or $3 a pop at some sites. Fueled by 3D titans Avatar and Alice in Wonderland, the 2010 box office has out-paced 2009 by a nine percent margin, but last year's one-two punch of Monsters Vs. Audiences turned out in huge numbers again for Alice in Wonderland, which was off 46 percent in its second weekend with $62.7 million. This was over $20 million more than the grosses of all four new wide releases combined. Despite four new nationwide releases this weekend, Alice in Wonderland is poised to spend its second weekend atop the box office. After a record-breaking $116.1 million opening weekend, the movie could tumble precipitously and still deliver one of the highest-grossing second weekends ever. During the week, it has maintained decent momentum, though it was off nearly 25 percent from Monday to Wednesday. Valentine's Day led to the biggest Presidents' Day weekend, not to mention the highest-grossing February weekend ever.
