That's 20 percent up on the previous record-holder, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and 32 percent up on Half-Blood Prince's series record. Including its stunning domestic take, Deathly Hallows Part 2 also eclipsed Half-Blood Prince to set the worldwide opening weekend record with an astronomical $483.2 million. That improved to $542.2 million through Monday ($18 million domestic plus $41 million overseas), and the movie set a new record by passing the half-billion dollar mark in just six days.

'Potter' Sets Four-Day Record

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 added $18.04 million yesterday to bring its four-day total to $187.2 million. That tops The Dark Knight's $182.9 million four-day tally to set a new record, though the Batman is closing in quickly.

That alone would equal the 13th highest-grossing opening day ever. The previous midnight record holder was The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with $30 million at around 4,000 locations, followed by The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $26.3 million at 3,514 locations. The last Potter, Deathly Hallows Part 1, conjured a $24 million midnight start at 3,700 locations, while Half-Blood Prince logged $22.2 million at 3,003 locations and The Dark Knight nabbed $18.5 million at 3,040 locations. 'Potter' Targets Foreign Opening Record

Saturday Update: On top of its record-setting domestic opening day, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 also had another huge day overseas. The movie added an estimated $75 million from 59 territories to bring its international total to $157.5 million. It set opening day records in the United Kingdom and Mexico with $14.8 million and $6.1 million, respectively, and also established new Harry Potter records in Japan ($5.7 million), Brazil ($4.4 million), Spain ($3.3 million) and Poland ($1.25 million). Its highest-grossing territory to date is Australia, where it has earned $16.6 million in three days.

'Harry Potter' Already Breaking Records

It's not even out yet, but Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is already breaking records. Distributor Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the Harry Potter finale has conjured over $32 million in advance ticket sales, setting a new pre-opening benchmark. Regal Entertainment Group alone claimed over $10 million for the 535 locations it operates, whlie MovieTickets.com has already sold more Deathly Hallows Part 2 tickets than for any other 2011 release, marking a 38 percent increase over Part 1.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon ruled the foreign box office again, drawing $94.7 million in 58 holdover markets over the weekend.
