On Friday, The Expendables took a commanding lead in its debut, Eat Pray Love came out well-fed, but Scott Pilgrim vs. the World didn't receive a power-up.

The Expendables claimed a solid estimated $13.3 million on approximately 4,200 screens at 3,270 locations. That was a bit less than the $14.4 million opening day of Inglourious Basterds last August, but it was greater than The A-Team's $9.7 million and nearly doubled Rambo's $6.7 million. If Expendables follows Basterds's trajectory, it would wind up with a $35 million opening weekend.

Eat Pray Love collected an estimated $8.5 million on close to 3,700 screens at 3,082 locations, which topped Julie & Julia's $6.5 million first day last August. It also marked Julia Roberts' biggest launch in a top-billed role since America's Sweethearts in 2001.

Scott Pilgrim scored a modest estimated $4.5 million on around 3,000 screens at 2,818 locations, which was close to the opening day of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. However, it paled compared to Kick-Ass's $7.7 million launch.

The Other Guys retreated 57 percent from last Friday to an estimated $5.6 million for a $58.1 million total in eight days. Its drop was about the same as Step Brothers at the same point. Inception continued to hold relatively well, down 40 percent to an estimated $3.3 million for a $240.5 million tally in 29 days.

Step Up 3-D plunged 66 percent to an estimated $2.3 million, further trailing its predecessors with a $25.2 million eight-day sum. Again, 80 percent of its business came from 3D presentations. Despicable Me had the smallest drop among nationwide holdovers, easing 28 percent to an estimated $2.1 million and lifting its total to $217.3 million in 36 days.
