Dawn Treader added $31.2 million on over 10,000 screens in 60 markets for a foreign total of $125.2 million. On average, holdover markets declined a rough 60 percent, which distributor 20th Century Fox attributed to the inclement weather in Europe. However, Dawn Treader failed to open in first in Germany ($2.4 million) and managed a moderate $1.8 million fourth-place start in Italy. Both of these debuts marked new lows for the Narnia series.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 eased 22 percent to $24.2 million on 9,630 screens in 65 territories. The strong hold can be entirely attributed to respectable openings in South Korea ($6.6 million) and Hong Kong ($2 million), though it was down from the last two Potter movies in both territories. Since opening a month ago, Deathly Hallows Part 1 has earned an impressive $558.4 million overseas for a worldwide (domestic plus foreign) total of $825 million, which is good for 25th place on the all-time list.
Tron Legacy launched to an estimated $23 million in 26 territories (representing 50 percent of the international market). It finished in first place in nearly all of its territories, including Australia ($3.3 million), the United Kingdom ($3.05 milllion), Brazil ($1.8 million) and Spain ($1.7 million). Less exciting was Tron's middling $3.4 million second-place finish in Japan, a country where visually impressive movies tend to perform extremely well.
Playing in 45 territories, Megamind added another $15 million to its coffers. It had a solid $2.7 million first place opening in Mexico, though it was less impressive in France ($2.4 million) and Italy ($1.3 million). After opening in most major markets, Megamind has made a lackluster $87.4 million.
Without any significant debuts, Tangled dipped 33 percent to an estimated $14 million in 17 territories. It moved in to first place in France with $4.2 million and was up 73 percent to $4.1 million in Germany. The animated comedy has thus far earned $97.8 million overseas.
The Tourist continued its expansion across Europe and scored $10.5 million. It had third place openings in Germany ($2.1 million) and Italy ($2.5 million) but wound up in fifth place in France ($1.9 million). Through its second weekend, the Angelina Jolie-Johnny Depp romantic thriller has made $22.5 million.
