TV: 'Saturday Night Live,' 'Air Force One' Post Highest Ratings on Saturday

HOLLYWOOD (Box Office Mojo) - Appropriately, Saturday night was ruled by the season finale of Saturday Night Live, but, unfortunately for NBC, late night shows don't count in the primetime ratings derby. The Peacock Network came in fourth for the night with a 3.8 average rating and 7 share, despite its dominance on weekdays.

ABC, which has been bringing up the rear more often than not, took the top spot with a re-run of the 1997 Harrison Ford thriller Air Force One, which averaged 5.4 / 10 during its 8-11 p.m. running time. CBS was second with a 4.5 / 8, and Fox third with a 4.4 / 8.

ABC's Air Force One did not start with night-winning ratings, but its audience kept growing, peaking in the 10:30 p.m. slot with a the highest rating of the night (6.9 / 13). Instead, NBC was tops at 8 p.m. with the NBA Playoffs (4.8 / 10), and Fox mainstay COPS nabbed a 4.3 / 9. A repeat of Touched by an Angel on CBS came in last with a 3.0 / 6.

At 9 p.m., Air Force One flew to the top, while Fox's perennial America's Most Wanted landed a 4.5 / 8. The Ultimate Manilow concert special followed with a 4.4 / 8. NBC started the hour with a 5.3 / 10 from NBA Playoff spillover, but then went down to a 2.7 / 5 with a Just Shoot Me repeat.

The season finale of The District brought in a 6.2 / 12 to put CBS in second for the 10 o'clock hour. NBC was last with a repeat of Law & Order (2.7 / 5).

From 11 to 12, Fox's Mad TV averaged a 3.7 / 7, according to overnight metered markets.

At 11:30 p.m., the season finale of Saturday Night Live, which bid farewell to long standing cast member Will Ferrell, scored a 6.9 / 17. Winona Ryder, who's latest movie Mr. Deeds opens June 28, hosted with musical guest Moby, who's latest album "18" had just hit stores. Among other things, the show featured Ferrell's "bearologist" skit, which anyone who saw A&E's behind the scenes look at SNL would know finally made the cut after being yanked from the Gwyneth Paltrow show last year.
