Around-the-World Roundup: 'Green Hornet' Stings Top Spot, 'Hereafter' Saves Face
After losing out to Tangled in its opening weekend, The Green Hornet added a few major new markets and moved to the top of the foreign chart. After flying under the radar for a while, Hereafter had impressive launches in France and Spain. Black Swan flew in to third place with healthy debuts in the United Kingdom and Germany. Overall business was likely down again from last year, as Avatar's $108.3 million was once again greater than this week's Top Ten combined.

The Green Hornet made $18.5 million from 45 markets to bring its foreign total to $37.5 million. That included strong first place starts in Australia ($3.1 million) and Mexico ($2.5 million), along with a decent third place debut in Japan ($1.7 million). It also added $2.7 million in Germany and $1.6 million in France. On Sunday, the superhero comedy crossed $100 million worldwide (domestic plus foreign).

While its $32.8 million haul made it a bit of a disappointment on the domestic front, Hereafter now appears poised to reap solid earnings internationally. The Clint Eastwood drama earned $13.1 million from 29 markets over the weekend, including huge first place debuts in France ($5.6 million) and Spain ($3.8 million). Hereafter will look to significantly add to its $29 million total when it opens in the U.K. and Germany on Friday.

After cementing its status as one of the breakout domestic hits of 2010, Black Swan began its foreign run with $11.4 million from just nine territories over the weekend. It opened in first place in Germany ($2.7 million) and had strong debuts in the U.K. ($4.4 million) and Australia ($2.7 million) as well. It expands to Greece, New Zealand and a handful of smaller territories in the coming days.

The Tourist continued to offset its middling domestic showing by adding $11.1 million in foreign coin for a total of $139 million. Its top region was Brazil, where it opened on top with $2.3 million. The Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie thriller has now earned over $205 million worldwide.

Without any significant new openings, The King's Speech still managed to increase a tick to $9.8 million. It held steady in both the U.K. ($6.8 million) and Australia ($1.8 million), and has thus far made $29.3 million and $15.5 million in those territories, respectively. With a $49.8 million total, it expands to Italy and Switzerland this weekend.

Last week's leader Tangled fell 39 percent to an estimated $9.5 million for a $231.8 million tally. This pushed its worldwide total to nearly $420 million, and it looks to quickly add to that when it opens in the U.K. and South Africa on Friday.
