Regal Entertainment Group Places Major Order for DTS Playback Units
Regal Purchases DTS XD10 And XD10P Playback Units
Agoura Hills, CA—April 11, 2005—DTS (Digital Theater Systems, Inc.) (NASDAQ: DTSI) announces that Regal Entertainment Group has placed a major order for DTS digital audio playback systems to be installed in Regal-owned theaters across the United States during 2005. The order encompasses a mix of XD10 Cinema Media Players and XD10P Cinema Audio Processors.
Delivering high quality multi-channel audio playback from hard disks with pristine reproduction of audio over countless screenings, the XD10 Cinema Media Player represents the latest cinema technology from DTS. Since audio is stored externally and not on the film print, there is no degradation of quality regardless of how many times a film is presented. In addition to audio playback, the XD10 also offers high definition video playback, used to deliver digital pre-show, captions and subtitles along with surround audio.
The XD10P Cinema Audio Processor is the newest offering from DTS and compliments the XD10 Media Player by allowing audio to remain in the digital domain throughout the processing stage as it is delivered to a theatre's audio system. The XD10P can be programmed with user-friendly software that provides memory of all preset functions including EQ and gain settings.
A key factor in Regal's purchase decision was the unique ability of the XD10 to integrate with Regal's existing projectors that they currently use for pre-show content. Once installed, the systems will provide audio playback for film presentations while also incorporating DTS Cinema Subtitling System (CSS) technology to support open captioning for the deaf and hard of hearing.

DTS's XD10 Cinema Media Player is compatible with both traditional film playback and emerging D-cinema technologies. Engineered to deliver up to 10 channels of scalable digital surround sound (expandable to 16 channels), the XD10 is an expandable media solution for pre-show and feature film presentation. An internal hard drive is used as the film sound signal source while two DVD drives enable download of film sound information to the hard drive. Giving distributors and exhibitors the flexibility of storing either multiple languages of one title or multiple titles, the XD10 will automatically load and store up to 30 full-length film soundtracks. The XD10 is also capable of playing back enhanced video for alternate media (e-cinema) and has networking and pre-show programming features for an integrated presentation.
