Academy's Stevens Retrospective to Feature 'Guna Din'
Beverly Hills, CA — The 1939 adventure Gunga Din, which was directed by George Stevens, will screen on Monday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Gunga Din will be presented as part of a centennial tribute celebrating the life and career of the film's Oscar®-winning director.
Behind-the-scenes color footage on the Lone Pine, California, set of Gunga Din, including candid moments with the film's stars Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine, will be shown prior to the film. An interview with the film's co-star Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., from the 1985 documentary George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey, also will precede the feature presentation. The 1930 short film Brats, photographed by Stevens, will be shown during the program as will the original trailer for the next film in the series The More the Merrier.
Tickets for each screening may be purchased on an individual basis at a cost of $5 each for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid identification. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, pending availability, the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Academy is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills.
