Q. Why is 'Fahrenheit 9/11' no longer being tracked DAILY?
Q. What happened to 'Fahrenheit 9/11,' 'Notebook,' etc. on the daily chart? Are they no longer playing in theaters?
Just because a movie no longer appears on the Daily charts, doesn't mean we've stopped tracking it altogether or that it's stopped playing. There's still the Weekend and Weekly updates on Mondays and Fridays respectively. For instance, go to the Fahrenheit 9/11 page or The Notebook one, and you'll see in the top info boxes their latest total grosses with the "as of" date.
In general, if a movie's daily grosses stop appearing on the daily chart it simply means that the respective studio is no longer tracking it on a daily basis—their cooperation is necessary to bring you "Actual" grosses. In the cases of Fahrenheit 9/11 and Notebook, they were never tracked daily by their distributors—that's why their daily grosses have always been listed as "Estimates."
Independent and mini-major distributors like Fahrenheit's Lions Gate and Notebook's New Line do not track daily box office, so Box Office Mojo makes accurate estimates for their movies based on theater samplings in order to fill out the top 12. When movies from these distributors fall out of the top 12, we stop tracking them at that level. Other distributors that don't do dailies include Miramax/Dimension, IDP and IFC.
